My Friend Soweto

Written by Biyi Bandele and Directed by Jann Turner. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, who starred in dirty Pretty Things and Red Dust, and was funded by British Screen. It’s a short, sweet tale of prejudice and pride and of love lost and found in Brixton.

About the director

Jann Turner is a writer and director. She is the author of the novels HEARTLAND and SOUTHERN CROSS both published by Orion UK and Lubbe in Germany. HOME IS WHERE YOU FIND it is a childrens book published by Masker Millar Longman. She has written and directed a number of documentaries and worked for two years as part of the team of producers who made the TRUTH COMMISSION SPECIAL REPORT. A graduate of NYU’s Grad Film School she has also directed multi-cam soap and single cam drama as well as written numerous television scripts. She is the co-creator of MZANSI and also the SABC3 drama series HARD COPY that recently won the SAFTA Award for Best TV drama.
