Pretending is plain hard work

Dear Gabriel,

I don’t seem to get anywhere with girls. My mates tell me I go about it all wrong. My one mate has girls all the time. When he meets someone he tells her she should be a model. Once he said he was a famous writer, and got some English student in his bed within about 60 seconds. Do girls really like this shit?

Ben

Dear Ben

Sadly, it seems so. Well some women anyway – but is this the kind of person you’re looking for? And I’m also wondering, when these women find out that your friend is not a famous writer/model scout/award winning art director (delete whichever is not applicable), how long do they stick around? I’d guess about a minute or two. Of course, if it’s just consensual sex you’re looking for, everybody wins. But I’m guessing you want more. If you do, stick to what will work for you in the long run: be yourself.  In the end, while it can be oh so amusing, pretending is plain hard work, and impossible to keep up. The right woman for you will like you for who you are.
