Biography: Nikki Comninos

Nikki Comninos has conceptualized, researched, directed and edited
documentaries such as a Do Girls Want It? (SABC 1 and Encounters
Documentary film festival) which looked at virginity from a feminine
perspective, and Z is for Zulu (eTV) assessing Zulu culture as a
commodity. She directed a 4 part series, The History of Cato Manor for
eThekwini municipality’s Cato Manor Museum. She has worked on various
other projects, for example she was the editor of the recently
flighted Outsurance ad campaign ‘Helping South Africa Out’ and the
editor/researcher of the documentary on Schabir Shaik in SABC 3’s
Unauthorised series. During her Masters degree at WITS University she
scripted and filmed fiction pieces, her thesis film was an experimental blend of
documentary and fiction. Her graduation film from the University of
Cape Town’s Film Theory and Practice honours course was a documentary
entitled Algemeen Befokte Afrikaans looking at the changing identity
of the new Afrikaner in post-apartheid South Africa, which was in the
official selection of the New York International Independent Film
Festival and the Durban International Independent Film Festival
(2005).

Biography: Alex Halligey

Alex Halligey graduated from UCT’s Theatre and Performance program in
2004. Since then she has acted in ‘Repertoire: The African Way’ for
the 2004 German Arts and Culture Week; ‘Breathing Spaces’ created by
the Mothertongue Project for the 2005 Darling Voorkamer Fees. She has
been performing in Juliet Jenkin’s ‘The Boy Who Fell From the Roof’’
since it’s opening in 2005 for which she was nominated for a Best
Supporting Actress Fleur de Cap and won the Michael MacLiammior Best
Female Outstanding Performance Award at the 2007 Dublin Gay and
Lesbian Theatre Festival. As well as a couple of cameo roles for
television, she has worked as a voice artist, written text for a
variety of performance projects and has assisted technically on
theatre productions.
